Fragmented Self

The artwork explores the idea of the fragmented self, and the increasingly blurred line between human and machine. The figure is recognisably human, but parts of the head and face appear broken apart, mechanical or incomplete, as though the person is being reconstructed from separate pieces. The fragmentation reflects the different parts of ourselves that do not always fit neatly together, our thoughts, emotions, identities and the versions of ourselves we present to the world. At the same time, the mechanical shapes suggest technology becoming part of who we are, raising questions about where the human ends and the machine begins. The gold contrasts with the darker, mechanical forms, bringing something warm and human into an otherwise fragmented figure. Rather than showing the self as fixed or complete, the piece presents identity as something constantly being built, broken apart and reshaped.
